It’s probably safe to say that nobody’s life is “perfect.”  And in knowing and accepting that realization, we look for ways that we can improve our lives, bit by bit, day by day.

This could mean living a healthier lifestyle, being more responsible with our finances, better managing our stress levels, and forming stronger bonds with our family.

And while striving for perfection isn’t realistic, living a meaningful life of fulfillment certainly is.

Every day, there are thousands of people walking around, going through life with a dark cloud hanging over their head, and they may not even realize it.  They’ve somehow convinced themselves that the misery they’ve created for themselves is how life is “supposed to be.”  This is a very dangerous line of thinking, and could result in potential issues later down the line.

Here are signs your life could be lacking fulfillment and tips to improve your life for the better.

1. You hate your job

If the place where you spend a good one third of your time is making you miserable, it’s time to make a change.  Many people try to delude themselves into thinking that things will change or that hating their job is normal.

Find out what it is you dislike about your job, and then find out what the necessary steps are to bring about the change that you desire.  Whether this means finding a higher position within your current industry, changing your hours, or finding a new line of work altogether, the power to do so is in your hands.

2. You lack a relationship or are unhappy with your current one

This area is a bit tricky, and it’s an area that varies considerably amongst people.  First, let me start by saying that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being single.  For some people, particularly those that value their alone time or don’t have a lot of time and energy to devote to being in a relationship, being single is certainly the right call.

On the other hand, if you find yourself longing for a relationship, or you’re unhappy with the state of the one you’re currently in (which there could be many reasons for), find a way to change this, as it will negatively impact other areas of your life.

Try spicing things up in the bedroom, go on a trip to a new place or country together, or try new activities around your area to change up routine. It might not be your relationship at all that's the problem, it could just be routine lifestyle that you both got accustomed to is what is to blame. Try a small change, and it could go a long way!

3. You sleep excessively

When a person isn’t enjoying their life, it’s natural to try to hide from it.  For some, this means sleeping much more than usual, as when they’re asleep seems to be the only time they can find any comfort.  Don’t fall into this trap.

While getting adequate sleep is essential to proper health and mood, you can get too much of a good thing.  Research has shown that while a lack of sleep can negatively impact your health in a number of ways, it can just as equally have a negative impact if you sleep excessively.

4. You no longer find joy in activities that you once did

Now, obviously our tastes change as we get older.  Sometimes what once seemed fun doesn’t seem so fun anymore such as going out every night and partying it up at the bar or watching TV day in and day out when you come home from work.

But when you have hobbies and activities that you were once truly passionate about, and that seemingly changes overnight, this could be a sign of something deeper.  Try looking at other areas of your life to determine why you might not find joy in your favorite activities anymore.

5. You always want to be alone

Again, this one is a little bit tricky as some people are a naturally introverted and enjoy being by themselves more than others.  There’s nothing wrong with having independence and finding ways to occupy yourself without the company of others.

On the other hand, human beings are social beings, and at some point we all crave human interaction.  If you find yourself constantly seeking isolation and avoiding any form of socializing, this could be sign that you suffer from some form of depression or anxiety and are unhappy with certain areas of your life.

Keep in mind, the list above certainly isn’t set-in-stone, and doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re unfulfilled.  Only you can truly determine if you feel there’s a missing puzzle piece in your life, and if there is, it’s important to know that it isn’t impossible to make a change.

With proper mentoring, instructing, and guidance, it is possible to make a change in your life.  You just need to be the one to take the first step, and seek out the necessary means to live the life that you desire.
